In the past few days a potentially dangerous situation has come to light regarding an 11 year old who had attended an FAI soccer camp over the summer.
This lads father was approached during the course of the camp by a person who introduced himself as an FAI coach . He spoke to the father about how much he was impressed by his sons ability and wanted to know if he would be willing to travel to Dublin for special training during the October weekend / mid term break. He claimed that this was a new initiative being set up by the FAI for promising 11 year olds.
There is is no such training camp arranged by the FAI.
The person who made the approach is not an FAI Coach and the FAI have no knowledge of the name that was given to the father.
Clubs in the DDSL should ensure that similiar incidences do not take place and should let their players know that any approach by person/s unknown to them should be reported to their club.
